I’ll get straight to my unpopular opinion >>> Pinterest vision boards are ruining manifestation, mindset and women being able to create real change in their lives. And this may piss some people off but I don’t care because it needs to be said.
The aesthetic, perfectly curated, Instagram-worthy methods that get thousands of likes and saves? They’re not helping anyone actually transform their life. They’re just teaching people to make pretty craft projects.
And I’m fired up about this because when vision boards are done right, they become the most powerful tools we have for manifestation and life transformation. But the industry has turned them into decorative Pinterest boards 🤮. And it’s doing a massive disservice to everyone who actually wants to change their life.
So today, this post is about calling it out but more importantly helping you use vision boards to be able to have what you want to have and do what you want to do.
#1 Issue with Pinterest Boards
Let’s start with the obvious problem. When you search “vision board” on Pinterest, what do you see?
Perfectly arranged collages with matching color schemes. Aesthetic layouts with trendy fonts. Beautifully styled photos of vision boards propped up against plants and coffee cups.
And what’s the focus? The aesthetic. How pretty it looks. But that is just where the aesthetics begin. The pictures that go with those super cute boards are what people think you should be putting on your vision board…the cars, yacht vacations, mansion.
There is no guidance or care placed on if it is actually going to transform your life. Not whether the images mean anything to you. It starts and stops at, “does it look good?”
And that is the problem.
Because when you prioritize aesthetic over transformation, you’re teaching people that vision boards are about making something pretty. Not about doing deep mindset work. Which turns a powerful manifestation tool into a collage.
Side Effect of Aesthetics
So now that you have this ever-so-cute Pinterest vision board, you have just that: something that looks nice but doesn’t do squat. Because it is performance based. Seriously, you go to a party with mimosa’s, some magazines, and laugh it up but you don’t get anything from it.
And for me, I WANT you to get something from that board but vision boards only work when it is done intentionally. And that intention looks like:
- Being clear about what you want (not what is trending)
- Finding the belief that keeps you from what you want
- Forming new beliefs that allow what you want to happen
- And embodying those beliefs to make those pics your real life
Without those things your vision board is a pretty poster. Because our lives change when our beliefs change. Once you know that, then you know how to make a vision board that does what it is supposed to do 💃 change your life!
But the Experts Say…
What really gets me is the so-called vision board experts who perpetuate this.
Influencers posting Pinterest vision boards tutorials that are all aesthetic and zero substance. The “make it look good and stare at it” crowd.
If you’ve been caught up in this, don’t feel bad. You wanted to change your life. Pinterest vision boards sounded exciting plus it gave you a creative outlet. It’s not your fault the “gurus” with their perfect-looking lives sold you a defective method.
Here’s the truth: The purpose of a vision board is to shift your identity. To change your inner world so your outer world reflects it.
I’m not saying your board can’t be glittery AF. But the shiny parts aren’t the goal.
The belief work is what actually gets you the transformation you want. But nobody likes to talk about that online because it doesn’t get as many likes.
So you’re left with a pretty board and the same day-to-day life as before you made it.

Pinterest Vision Board but BETTER
Vision boards WORK! Not only have I gotten major life transformations but so have the women I work with. It happens when you infuse your vision board with belief work. Some call this identity work, others may call it embodiment (I use all these words). This is the work that makes your vision board your freaking life.
You wake up and what happens during your day looks exactly like the pictures you pasted kinda life.
I don’t know about you but that is the thing I want my Vision Board to do! That happens when you know what is supposed to go on your board, how to determine if it is right for you, and then how to embody it daily so it happens.
(For the crafty girlies like me…YES, you can make it cute but just don’t make cute the intention)
Going Deeper Into Vision Boards
Now, there is a process for making vision boards work but trust me when I say work I’m not saying you have to add a sh*t ton more to your to-do list or make a plan to get it done. I teach the full process from start to finish in the Vision Lab.
It is truly about understanding how you experience ‘reality’, meaning your day-to-day life and how to change that reality using your mind instead of effort. Cuz we aren’t about the burnout life around here. Then you add vision boards to that and presto, your life starts to get really damn good!
If you want to get started today then the first thing to do is understand what to put on your board. The 5-Minute Vision Board Fix is the process my members use to zero in on what to work with on their vision board so they aren’t wasting time and energy.
You can get it for FREE right now and start taking your vision board from a Pinterest trend to a life changing tool
